Crochet flowers-dyed

I was doing some small flowers for page accents last night and thought, "how fun would these be any color I want?" So I rummaged through my reinkers for my stamp pads, and dyed them. I left one to show an example. The reinkers were easy: a little water, a few drops of ink, let them sit for about 5 minutes and dried them over night! I think if I had soaked them longer, they would be more vibrant.

These are addiciting to make. I can sit there and make them up while we all hang out together. Each flower design I made up as I went along. It's fun! Pin It

Crochet Storage

This morning, Micah went out to work on the kitchen set that we are refinishing, Jaden was busy playing with monster trucks, and Jackson was napping, so I decided to make a bag and case to store the yarn and crochet supplies that didn't really have a home to call their own. It took no time at all to make it....maybe 2 hours tops.

I was inspired awhile back by this site, but I ended up really doing my own thing for both the bag and case...and the best part was, this was all done with fabric scraps. I have a lot of scraps I have been trying to use up the last few months. Just like with paper, its fun to see how many different ways you can use the same print and just how different it looks!

I made sure to leave spaces for more hooks in the future, and the bag can hold a lot more yarn!

I'm pretty pleased with it! Pin It

My First Flower

I crocheted my first flower yesterday, it only took me about an hour maybe, tops? Pretty easy and its a really good stress reliever!

Its not going to be a hair accessory, but i dont have a pin for it yet. I think next I might try to do jewelry!

I got the pattern here but I didn't follow it exactly, as our centers are different and the pattern looks a lot cleaner.

I'm "hooked"! Get it? Hee hee.... hooked. :) Pin It

Practice.

I am horrible at it, and I never realized it until last night when Micah informed me of this.

Sure I enjoy doing things with my hands. Crafts, photography, baking, trying new things, etc. But it has to come easy to me. If it doesnt, I move on to the next thing, or go back to something I know I can do. Maybe I give up too easily.

I do not like to practice anything. To practice something means that its not easy and I have to try. Its maddening to me to sit there and do something repetitively...

So there I am. Trying for the umpteenth time to crochet something more than a few lines. I have gotten down some of the basic stitches but after my 60th row of double crochet and then taking it out and doing again, Micah stopped me.

"You need to be taught how to practice something and stick with it," he tells me.

Gee thanks.

"but I am practicing! i keep doing the same stitch over and over!"

"thats not practicing"

"I dont wanna practice." and I probably stomped my feet a couple of times to prove my point.

Then he patiently pointed out to me that doing a couple of rows and cutting them off and making a weird little dohicky pile wasn't the same thing as practice and I need to actually make something with this new skill I am trying to learn.

"Make a blanket", he tells me.

Ugh. Blankets are boring. Who wants to sit there and do the same thing over and over?

But, to prove to him that I can practice something, rather than sitting down and whipping something up and moving on, I am going to attempt a scarf.

Right after I try to make flowers.

Ok not really. I will try to "practice" that once i make the scarf. Even if it makes me grouchy and I end up never crocheting again.

There, Micah, I will stick with something longer than a day or two. I must realllllly have a short attention span! Thats my goal now. To practice. ..practice....practice.....

Crochet?

Can someone please teach me how to crochet?

By the way, I am left handed, and my mom told me that it poses a problem with being taught crochet, thus being the reason why she never learned and now can not teach me, so I thought I would throw that little tidbit out there. Wow, that was a long run on sentence! Micah's grandmother crochets, so I thought i would call on the expert and she too told me she could only teach me right handed. I just can not do things with my right hand, but I think I will try.

Please, please please? Crochet.......crochet........crochet......! Its calling my name! Begging to be learned!

I must teach myself if no one can help me (I have been saying this forever now). This is a goal of mine. Maybe I will do it in Texas since i cant scrapbook or sew for three weeks... Yep, thats what I think I will try to do! Let me know if you have any tips or hints. Pin It
