Whew! I am TIRED!

Warning! This is probably a very boring post to everyone. Its more for my own peace of mind and ramblings.

Today was supposed to be a productive day. Actually, so was yesterday. We have four trees that need to be planted, a vine that is waiting to be planted, a fence in the backyard that needs to be finished (half started), another that needs to be built, other odds and ends with the sprinkler system, the grass needs work, etc. And thats just outside.

Did anything get done? No. After church, we spent the day doing errands that needed to get done, and then had dinner at my parents' house. When I got home, of course I started into something completely not needing to be done right now.

I just wanted to see how i am doing for my February goals, as we are halfway through the month. Lets see here....here's what i have finished

  • start a new Bible study. - not necessarily a new Bible study...but a lot of questions are being answered.
  • update my etsy...sick of seeing christmas stuff on there, time to put fun new things in! -i have started with the wipe cases. got more fabric today to make more crayon rolls.
  • make Jack's pillow-waiting for the stuffing to go half off at JoAnn - done and i found a bag of stuffing so it was free!
  • build and stain Jack's dresser -skipping this. bought plastic (gasp. i know i am horrible.) drawers for closet instead today. i think i am much happier this way. who knows how long he will be in his crib and in his current furniture state anyway. and the drawers were clearanced at lowe's.
  • put the boxes in the attic from christmas so that I can have the patio back (not my job. i did my part before 2009!) - you better believe thats done. woo hoo!...now its got tools and such on it for fence in progress.
  • start 2009 garden - done for now!
Ok...about half way done! And of course, I keep adding to the list. I have a feeling that its going to run into March...and I am ok with that...March's list is already crazy! Pin It

February Goals

I have projects in my mind that I need to complete, along with things to do around the house a mile long. I doubt this will all get done in February..but it's good to have goals. And a lot of it is dependant on my husband who has different work hours this month.

In no particular order:
  • start a new Bible study.
  • update my etsy...sick of seeing christmas stuff on there, time to put fun new things in!
  • do scrap quilt
  • make that wallet.
  • start Jaden's train quilt
  • learn to knit (with Devon as my teacher, right? :))
  • applique walgreens reusable bags (I got 12 for 4.00!)
  • start art lessons this month- all signed up!
  • get kits made for DM
  • make Jack's pillow-waiting for the stuffing to go half off at JoAnn
  • build and stain Jack's dresser
  • refinish craft chair...have supplies for it, just need to do it.
  • put the boxes in the attic from christmas so that I can have the patio back (not my job. i did my part before 2009!)
  • start 2009 garden (waiting on mini fence to be built so dog doesnt eat my carrots this year)
  • finish the kitchen chairs (?! yeah thats right.)
  • back up all photos on laptop.
  • fix our pc... stupid virus.
  • and since its February, how about making that calendar holder so I get that hung up. :)

2009 Plans/Resolutions

I never like to make resolutions because I can never seem to keep them!

I am planning on working on a few things this coming year. Some of these things are (in no particular order)...
  • getting in shape
  • eating better as a family
  • working on and continuing our goals of "being green"
  • learning to knit
  • getting to know my camera better
  • drawing closer to God
  • working on our finances
  • being more thrifty
One thing I am excited to be working on is keeping a book for myself for the whole year. Thoughts I have, stories to tell, events I go through, etc. Along with this will be my picture a day goal. Each day I will take one picture that represents the day, my thoughts, whatever is going on in my head! I am hoping it catches on and it is something I can stick with throughout the years. What a neat thing to be able to look back on as we raise our family and live life!

What kind of resolutions or plans do you have? Do you stick with them? Pin It

Photography...

Today is rough for our family of four. Jaden is recovering from a mysterious fever he had for a few days, I now have this horrible flu with fever, head and body aches, sore throat and chest stuff, Micah is having car issues and is fixing it at work as I type this, and Jackson has the worst of it all....the stomach flu (after getting over HIS fever this weekend). I believe he has now thrown up 6 times today. At lunch, he SMELLED food and threw up. My poor baby.

But right now, I have a little down time, so I thought I would write about randomness.

A little background on this train of thought I am about to babble on about.

Since I was 6 years old and recieved my first camera as a gift from my new baby sister's birth, I have been in love with taking pictures. My first camera had the cassette film and the attached flash that only had a specific number of times it could be used, where you had to wind up the film to process it...and then wait forever to get your film back only to see they are all black or crooked or there is a thumb in the picture.

I was always the girl with the camera at all the birthday parties I went to, the hking trips I was dragged on, the vacations, the youth camps and events and of course just random school snap shots. I loved taking pictures.

I have gone from the little flat camera to multiple types...a bright orange one, a couple of black ones * all 35 mm film of course...digital...whats digital?

When I was 18, my mom gave me a 35 mm slr camera with all of the lenses a girl could ever dream of. Of course I had no clue what I was doing (yet!) but I was on love. Then, like an IDIOT 18 year old careless girl that I was, I left it overnight in my boyfriend's car that was in our driveway and some jerk broke in his car, left all the cases for the lenses and the bag but took everything else. I was heart broken and STILL kick myself about that stupid mistake. Of course I never got it back either.

Then I got my first digital camera, then another, and my first born son was born. I had no clue what I was doing except for the fact that I knew how to point and shoot, use the flash and upload them. Wow, what a missed opportunity, but I do have a lot of pictures. Then I got another camera and my second son was born and I was starting to figure some things out with pictures. Over the summer, I officially decided I needed a better camera and recieved one for my birthay.... my first "prosumer camera". In the last 9 months or so, I have learned so much...one being I have so much more to learn! There is so much that goes into getting a good shot. Aperture, composition, so much that I want to increase my knowledge in!

Now I have my first SLR...being very cheap. I scrimped as much as I could and had my first "job" this month, which helped to pay for it and have just a little amount left. We are in no way able to just go and make a purchase like that, but the oportunity from that job made it possible and it didnt hurt us in any way. I didnt run out and do this on a whim and I did this for one purpose...to make a profit off of something I love and kind of think I have a bit of a talent for, an eye for? (Sorry if that sounds kind of full of myself, how else do you word that?) Now that I have this new camera, there is SO much more to learn about! I hope to take a noncredit class or two in the near future and learn learn learn! I have also learned that you can get GREAT pictures no matter what the camera is, and that it is more of the photographer that factors in than anything else.

Soo....all of that to say, I hope to be able to make this into a career. Its probably more of a dream, but my goal is to do maternity, baby, children, family, and engagement portraits. NOT weddings! Weddings are too stressful, and there is too much riding on the photographer. Once you take the fun out of it (and adding stress), its no longer worth it.

And thats about it in a nutshell. Those are my thoughts of the day. :)

Taking a break and enjoying every monent!

Yesterday I cam to the realization that I am stressed out! Trying to accomplish so much during the day all day every day just wears you out. And as I took a step back, I realized so much of the stress just isnt neccessary. I have two boys. The house just can not be clean 100% of the time! There will always be laundry to put away, even if I do spend an entire day washing it and putting it away. There will always be a need for a meal cooked, the house being picked up, etc. But in order to stay sain, I am just going to have to start taking some time for myself. I am not talking about anything crazy, just a day off where I am not worried about housework. That it is all about kids and playing with them and watching them grow and discover, and taking time to scrapbook, which is always good therapy!

Today, I started dinner when I woke up, via goold old crockpot. I made breakfast and then I cut up some strawberries, made a pound cake from scratch, and turned on the oven to self clean. (and the rest of the house doesn't have a self clean button because....?) The boys are dressed, Jackson is napping his first nap of the day, and Jaden is happily playing in the living room. No stress today. Am I dressed yet? Nope! Is my bed made and the laundry from yesterday put away? Nope! But thats ok! I am making a playdate with the kids and my scrapbook stuff. I have everything all spread out amongst their toys and am down on the floor with them. Occassionally, I stop and growl and wrestle, or push some cars around. Everyone is content. Its been awhile since I did this. Yes, I play with the boys all the time, but how often do I stop and really appreciate it?

Jaden happily did his own scrapbooking while I did this page.

Showing the journaling part open...

Doing this 12 months page was bittersweet. I stuck with Jackson's first year and did a page for every month. It was so fun to do a page to represent each month, but this is the last page for this first year. Its great to look through each page and see how much he grew! Pin It

2008 Goals in Scrapbooking

I just wanted to jot down some of my goals for scrapbooking this year :)

Each month I want to scrapbook a page about what I loved from that month......at the end of the year, it will have my own personal year together like a mini journal. I figure thats the best way to do an album about me!

Each week, I want to do at least two pages. One of Jaden and one of Jackson and then whatever else I feel like working on.

I also want to make sure I do other projects as well. Keeps me on my toes a bit :) Pin It
