A little birdie dress

So the other day I had the itch to create something. I had a dress pattern here I bought a long time ago and had never tried, and not feeling too creative, I went with it. 

This girl doesn't do patterns well. I dont have the patience for them. To me, they are just a confusing mess of nonsense. Something about followinf directions.

So after having to call my mom for help over the phone, and more time wasted than it was worth, I ended up just doing my own thing.

For the bird "applique", I cheated and cut the bird out and sewed it on using the button hole stitch on my sewing machine. 

I made a matching burp cloth and headband with it too :)

Crafty Apron

I needed an apron that had a few pockets for when I am painting and crafting. 

Remember these fun aprons? I had a little bit of fabric left and used it to make this! 

And then I appliqued a little flower and doubled two buttons:

Shirt and Tie

Playing around with applique. This shirt's tie will fray once it is washed. I figure it is for a messy little guy, so why not fray it up a bit? Going to be so cute with a blazer and cords.

And this is the other one I did...with finished edges. the tie is an old shirt of my husbands.

Alligator Party!

My little guy doesn't have a lot to say, but one thing he likes is alligators, and he lets us know! Its actually really cute how he says it, just dont ask him to say it...because he wont. It has to be on HIS terms.

So we decided to throw a little family party last night for his birthday tomorrow. The theme was...alligators!

I made this shirt with both applique and freezer paper stencil:

We didnt do all the decorations this time. I kept it simple with this banner I made and the fun part is, it can go in his room too!

The food was really good. My husband's hobby is smoking meat, so he took care of the big parts. He smoked pork for pulled pork sandwiches and did beans and coleslaw. I did mac and cheese from my friend's recipe who was super gracious enough to share it with me (and help me make it over the phone!) and we kept drinks simple with water, kool aid and sweet tea. My mother in law made a yummy  layer salad, some fruit kabobs with fruit snacks on the end which were a huge hit with the boys for sure, and an awesome alligator shaped dip. It tasted great and looked fun! She was such a huge help!

The most fun part of getting ready for our boys' birthdays is making the cake for it. Micah and I always do it together, and its always an adventure. Here is Jackson's cake.

This is what we started with:

a bundt cake, cupcakes, mini cupcakes and a sheet cake. Then we just started cutting until we got this shape:

And blowing out the candles....twice ya know, since he is turning two!

So thats about it! I will have more pictures from the party on our family blog soon. Thank you to our family for coming over and helping us celebrate the blessing that Jackson is in our lives! It means so much to us to know how much you love our little guy and he loves you all too!

Guess where we are going today?

3 boys under the age of 3+the happiest place on earth=3X the fun! We are going to surprise Jaden!

I used:

plain blue tshirts

black fabric

black thread

fusible interfacing

Cut out my shapes in both the fabric and the interfacing, iron on, and then stitched around the shape three times a piece...I still need to trim threads a bit.

Keepin' it real.

Not every project I attempt turns out.

I was trying to make coasters today for the living room and it was a big flop. I guess they were cut too small and the material was too thick because when I got to the last step, it all fell apart.

I guess I will have to make a quilt for the living room and put these squares in it so they don't go to waste.. I will have to go buy more potholders, so hopefully there wasnt a mad stampede for them since last night!

This was the first time appliquéing the birds like this. These are also the same birds I hand drew for that tray I did. Kind of made it up as I went along.

Materials used:

Heat n' bond and iro
brown thread
fat quarter quilting fabric in brown
clearance potholders cut apart. (I thought I was so slick for these at 50 cents a piece...too bad thats what ruined it.)

Tie Dye

This week we all tie dyed some old shirts we had here (mainly stained white shirts) and then I appliquéd one of JJ's. The cool part about the appliqué was I traced his little hand so its true size. The not cool part that I just realized was I forgot to fold the thumb down. But, thats ok, I think it gives it more character. Here are three of the 6 we did :)

(And yes, I am blue and Jaden is red after the whole ordeal. I think Micah escaped from the dye and he didn't wear gloves!)

Monster Truck Shirt

Jaden will be 3 on Friday and Sunday we are having a small family party. Because his little brother had such a big first birthday party (like he did), Jaden expects to have everything this same for HIS birthday. So we went to the store yesterday to buy monster truck plates and napkins and what have you and of course they didnt have any. Had he made up his mind on the theme a little earlier, we could have ordered them but last minute it didnt work out local. Thats ok though, we went with the stand by solid colors :) He wants a monster truck party so bad and loves "grave digger" (yeah I am learning more and more about things I did not even know existed until I had boys) so the colors will be green and black.

Last night I made him a shirt to wear for the party, and he loves it! I have to say, I think its pretty cool too!

JJ's two new onesies

I bought some onesies and tshirts for the boys for me to do appliques on....I made two for JJ and I am going to make a couple for Jaden tomorrow...
