Every since I can remember with my oldest, he has just loved sea creatures. He has always watched the shows, asked questions and reads reads reads anything he can get his hands on about sharks.
Last week, he turned the ripe old age of 7 and knew for months that he wanted a shark themed birthday party. This was a very fun theme, because it was mostly based on blues and grey. Easy!
Birthday parties are his most favorite thing in the whole world. So when he came to me with a list of what he wanted, I tried to make sure we did what he requested.
Here are some highlights of the party. I apologize that the pictures aren't these beautiful works of art :) I was just the mom/hostess that day. Hard to wear a million hats at once, especially with 15 kids plus family and friends all having a great time!

Guests were greeted with a coffee liner 7 wreath, and a shark caution sign that my husband and I put together:
Our entry way was made up with nets and paper dot garlands and sea shells with pictures of the birthday boy. Each of the little guests got a felt shark fin to wear. The majority of them actually did wear them and thought they were neat that they looked like sharks!
For favors, I bought a shark cookie cutter and decorated them in royal icing. Each guest got two cookies.
His shark shirt was made with a tshirt from Dollar Tree and felt appliqued on. I think it was a hit because he insisted on wearing it the next day too. The balloon wall was based on a backdrop idea i saw on pinterest for a food table. I thought it would be a fun background for gift opening. I also added ruffled streamers done on the sewing machine and more paper dot garland.
For the cupcakes, I didn't buy enough shark picks, but instead kept everything simple. Turquoise and white polka dot cupcake liners with blue buttercream frosting. He picked out funfetti and chocolate as his flavors, so I tinted the funfetti blue as well.
He requested a coloring contest. so he drew out a shark scene and we photo copied it for everyone to color. It was a nice way to open the party while everyone was getting situated. The blue bags were made for the pinata loot. For prizes, we had gummy octopus bags, but everyone was having so much fun, we never got to judging them.
For decorations, we got out his air swimmer and stuck it in the corner, used paper pom poms, balloons, paper garlands and ruffled streamers. Plus burlap and doilies with sea shells and some nets. It was very low cost. Add in some water balloons, slip n slides, snow cones using the Ninja, a cotton candy maker 1.00 yard sale find and lots of treats and food, and you have a happy little party!
